2020 Scholarship Winners
This year we were fortunate enough to award three $1,500 scholarships to the Santa Flores Alvarez, Hannah Ruth, and Sarah Trudeau. Congratulations on your future!
We welcome Sara as a 2020 recipient of this year’s NAWIC Scholarship. Sara is a recent graduate of Our Lady of Mercy and will be attending Clarkson University where she plans on studying Engineering and Management. While at Mercy, Sara participated in various academic organizations and was the Crew Team Captain. Starting in the summer of 2019-present, Sara has been working with Broccolo Tree and Lawn Care where she is learning management skills to help her career in the future.
Sara credits her inspiration to her grandparents, founders of Hynes Concrete, as well as her father and uncles who have helped guide her toward a future in construction. With her interest in problem solving, math, and the outdoors, Sara will be a great asset to the construction industry.
Santa Flores Alvarez
We welcome Santa as a 2020 recipient of this year’s NAWIC Scholarship. Santa is currently a junior at the Rochester Institute of Technology where she is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering Technology. Santa is currently involved in over 9 campus organizations in addition to having completed 2 internship positions (one being a Harvard University research assistant).
Santa credits her interest in construction to her uncle who was a construction manager in Honduras where she lived until she was 10 years old before moving to the Bronx. Living in NYC, she has seen poor structures and hopes to help provide safe and affordable housing for those in low income brackets.
We welcome Hannah as a 2020 recipient of this year’s NAWIC Scholarship. Hannah is a recent graduate of Our Lady of Mercy and will be starting her freshman year at The University of Buffalo where she will study Architecture. During her high school career, Hannah volunteered with over 11 organizations which included Flower City Work Camp and ACE mentor program.
During her time at UB, Hannah plan to take other classes that cover her wide range of interests, including art, dance, Spanish, psychology, photography and more. Her hope is to graduate with her Masters in Architecture so that she can hit the ground running and give back to her community.
